Ethnodrama: Engaging Students as Community Leaders
Community Allies is available to school districts for short or long-term mentoring of educators in culturally relevant curriculum enrichment that supports teacher and student leadership in community change-making. Based on the particular issues and needs of your classroom, school, or district, we help you integrate local history and creative and artistic resources that align with the broad range of teacher and youth literacies and with their real world college, career, identity, and citizenship needs. We provide training in practitioner research techniques that can help you research your educational initiatives and strengthen within and across discipline teaching and research partnerships, and we provide research assistance to help you document instructional designs and learning outcomes. We provide professional development in the form of in-person visits, classroom assistance, and interactive workshops, webinars, and video conversations. We work with you to establish a time line and program sufficient for your educational goals.
- In every aspect of our professional development, we center instruction in the many aspects of student cultures, literacies, and identities.
- We help you connect the arts with socially just and multicultural teaching and learning.
- We do not bring a prescribed curriculum or program; we offer an array of educational materials and instructional supports.
- We learn from you your questions and desires for teaching and learning.
- We provide a variety of literacy frameworks, dramatic resources, digital data bases and curricular materials and then support you in adapting and building upon them as you design your own instruction.
- We help you innovate your instruction through interdisciplinary relationships with other teachers in your school.
- We co-construct knowledge with you regarding the use of ethnodramatic and digital platforms that facilitate culturally responsive teaching.
